SUSAN SOMERS

Founder + CEO | WhenYouNeedHR

Susan is known to provide straightforward, uncomplicated HR solutions to businesses in need of a one-time project or to those who may require ongoing, retained HR support.  Her tactical and strategic best practices make a noticeable difference in the areas of all things HR, be it conducting a HR audit, creating customized policies, updating employee handbooks, ensuring up-to-date compliance initiatives, team building, training workshops, and/or coaching managers on how to manage.  Clients appreciate that Susan can be called upon to administer HR initiatives ranging from on-boarding a new employee to assisting with a termination and every employee relations interaction in-between.

Susan’s proactive approach stems from making a habit out of intercepting obstacles before they lead to liabilities; a practice learned from years of working side-by-side with corporate employment attorneys.  She understands the complexities of federal and state human resources compliance and uses her extensive, hands-on experience when it comes to guidance involving employee relations issues.  Time spent as a former AT&T HR professional has contributed to Susan’s solid and comprehensive knowledge base which laid the foundation for launching “WhenYouNeedHR” more than 20 years ago.

Over and above supporting clients with their HR needs, Susan worked (pre-Covid) with a local employment attorney hosting monthly HR lunch and learn workshops. This included facilitating HR training workshops to an audience made up of business owners, HR professionals and various levels of management.  Susan is passionate about proactively providing solutions which are intended to teach and develop managers and associates, while increasing the effectiveness and productivity of a business.

When Susan is not focused on her work, she enjoys spending time with her family and is often seen out and about with her Australian Shepherd rescue, Trudy.  She resides in the Westerville area.

We take a proactive approach to intercepting problems before they lead to liabilities.
